We Belong to God
July 12th, 2018
Jeremiah 30:12-24
“And you will be my people and I will be your God.” Our identity could not be more clear. God himself has given us our primary identity: we belong to God. When there is nothing else—our allies, our friends, and even our families have abandoned us—God calls us his people. In our broken, hurt, feeble state, he does not reject.
As God calls us his, he declares to us that He is God, our God. Our relationship with God is also made clear. God is compassion: he restores, heals his people, and makes all things new and right again.
This is our hope.
We may not be persecuted—we may have very supportive families and friends—but there are still moments when we are weak, feeble, and lonely. It may feel like the whole world is about to crash in on us. In these moments we can trust that God has called us his people and that he is still God, our God who makes all things new.
