Follow The Leader
August 19th, 2017
Hebrews 13:15-25
As a child, did you ever play the game, “Follow the Leader”? While there are many variations of the game, the basic concept is still the same. One person is selected at the leader and the rest of the group follow where they go and travel there like they do. So, whether you are hopping down a hallway or sidestepping through a side door, the point of the game is to follow the leader, no matter where they go! While playing this game, the other players put great faith in the leader. They do not know where they are headed or how they will be required to get there, but they follow their leader.
Being the leader is a lot of responsibility! It is a great burden to carry! Hebrews 13:17 calls us to have “confidence” in our leaders and to “submit to their authority.” The leader carries that burden and does not need the additional weight of our distrust and rebellious attitudes while, at the same time, dealing with pressures from outside of the group. It can be overwhelming for the leader to also deal with stress in the circle! We need to support our leaders and give them the encouragement they need!
