Proverbs 15:10-19

The selections found in Proverbs 15 are a series of conditions that are opposites of each other. One part of the proverb presents the positive, and the other the negative. We see this in Proverbs 15:14, “The discerning heart seeks knowledge, but the mouth of a fool feeds on folly.”

This verse reminds me of my days as a seminary student. Classes were grueling, the work was rigorous, and the professors seemed to be merciless with the amount of work they gave us. We would approach the end of a semester and we could hardly wait to be done with our classes and be free of the pressure. Yet, within just a short time, we were anxious for the new semester to begin. We were eager to learn what the next professor would teach us. We wanted to enrich our knowledge with new ideas and new insights. It was as if we could not get enough. Yes, when graduation came there was a sense of relief, but along with it regret that we would be leaving. We wanted to learn more.

Shouldn’t we all be that way in our relationship with Jesus? Lord, we want more of you.
