It Is With A Saddened Heart
April 27th, 2017
2 Kings 9:30-37
It’s difficult to read 2 Kings 9 without feeling at the very least sorry for the person Queen Jezebel had become. Certainly, as a child she didn’t grow up imagining that she would become an enemy of God. Yet, here she is on the pages of Scripture, with her demise recorded for everyone to see.
Jezebel’s story is not an easy one for us to understand today. While Jezebel’s demise might be seen as justified for her actions against God’s prophets, others see only that she was struck down by an angry Deity. We must be careful not to fall into the trap of judgment, but instead seek to know God’s heart.
God himself addresses this issue in Ezekiel 33:11: “As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign LORD, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live. Turn! Turn from your evil ways!”
I’m thankful that because of Christ’s sacrifice, I don’t have to suffer Jezebel’s fate. When I repent of my sin, I’m washed clean by the blood of Jesus.
