God’s Great Plan
April 23rd, 2017
Ruth 4:1-17
Everyone loves a story with a happy ending. Naomi and Ruth had a guardian-redeemer. Boaz married Ruth, and they had a son. Their son Obed was the father of Jesse, and Jesse was the father of King David. If you read the genealogy in Matthew 1, you will discover that this lineage continues directly down to Jesus Christ, the Redeemer of all of God’s creation. Matthew reports the angelic messenger’s words to Joseph: “She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins” (1:21).
“God’s great plan” before the foundation of this world was to redeem His creation. God knew the terrifying potential Adam and Eve would have in the Garden of Eden, but that didn’t change His plans to create humans with a free will.
We can see more clearly than ever that God is “a selfless spirit.” He is “totally committed” to giving us “rich rewards” that are His “compassion and grace.” “We have a Redeemer”; His name is Jesus. As we “wait for His provision,” He unveils His “great plan” for us.
