Our Firm Foundation

Philippians 4:1-9
“Solid foundations are the sign of a master builder” is so true. Jesus once told a story of two men. They both built houses but in different locations: One wisely built his on solid rock, the other foolishly built his on sand. When the inevitable storm came, only the house built on a solid foundation remained standing (Matthew 7:24-27). It is Jesus’ teachings put into practice in our lives that provide a solid foundation to endure life’s storms.
The apostle Paul, in Philippians 4, encouraged the community of believers to stand firm. The same principles that create a solid foundation for spiritual life individually also work corporately. Working toward a “like mind,” to have shared goals and purposes, is essential. This requires engagement–listening carefully to one another and seeking to clearly understand God’s Word. We need to also cultivate an atmosphere of joy and gentleness. Thankful hearts bound together by prayer and focused on all things praiseworthy will experience God’s presence and peace. There is no more solid foundation.
