Psalm 116:1-19
It was a beautiful night in Brazil when a senior pastor, his wife, and a couple of friends headed home after a great Sunday service. On the way, a car in front of them stopped suddenly, and two men jumped out and started shooting at them. Frightened and confused, they cried out to God for help, and the men left. Checking out their car afterwards, they saw bullet holes everywhere, but not one hit any of them. God had protected them!
Nothing makes a more indelible impression than when someone comes to our aid after we’ve cried out for help. Sometimes we hesitate to come to God because we think, “There are others with worse needs than ours,” or we assume that when God sees us coming He will say, “Oh bother, here she comes again!” But, He is the One who invites us to come to Him!
No matter the circumstances or how many times we have come, we have a heavenly Father who continues to turn His ear toward us when we earnestly express our need to Him. “The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth” (Psalm 145:18).
