Busy World

1 Samuel 9:15-27
It doesn’t take long to figure out that we are living in perhaps the busiest generation to ever exist. Everybody wants a piece of our time. We get in the car and turn the radio on. Sales people call at all times of the day and night. We stay busy carting our kids and grandkids from one place to the next. When we are in the presence of other people, we are expected to carry on a conversation. Silence is taboo in our society.
It was not all that different in Saul’s day. The prophet Samuel knew that Saul needed some quiet time away from his associates and the “noise” of the world to hear what God had in store for him. In the moments of silence that were to follow, God called him into service. Could Saul have heard as clearly had he not paused?
God is still speaking and calling us today. Is it possible we aren’t hearing clearly enough because we don’t stop to listen? We must build space into our life to simply wait on the Lord to speak to us.
