Free In Christ
August 23rd, 2016
Matthew 6:19-27
The greatest lie of this generation is that we can be free from any and all masters. The slogan “Free to be me” has deceived us. Living life for self gratification is just another route to slavery. It is this slavery the Apostle Paul speaks of when he writes, “their god is their stomach” (Philippians 3:19).
Commonly Christians and pagans agree that money and power do not make good masters. But we are always serving someone or something. Jesus warns us of worrying over our life, food, drink, body, and clothing–basic necessities. The things we worry about are the things we care about. The things that keep us up at night are the very things that come to master our lives. Anything that is not submitted to Christ’s Lordship is an illegitimate ruler in our life. If God is not the master of our money, our money is master over us. If God does not rule over our desires, our desires rule over us.
There is no freedom that has not been bought by the blood of Jesus Christ.
