His Message For Us
July 12th, 2016
Revelation 1:9-20
What scary situations have you faced? Cancer, crime victim, loss of job, grief, homelessness, betrayal? These are all frightening. They affect us physically and they can erode us spiritually. Because of his witness for the Gospel, John was exiled on the Island of Patmos. Isolation, however, did not prevent him from worshipping on the Lord’s Day (Revelation 1:9).
While enjoying God’s presence, John heard a voice calling him. We see John alone on an island, but he isn’t alone. He hears a voice. He sees a face, it looks like Jesus; and Jesus places his comforting hand on him.
Though we feel alone, we are not; our work is not done; look for Jesus and expect his touch. His message to us is, “Do not be afraid.” He has the final Word over death and life. These temporary problems will not define us. Worship the Lord, see His face in your problem, feel His touch, and hear His word: “Do not be afraid” (Revelation 1:17).
