Psalm 143:1-12
Our mutual safety requires us to walk in obedience to uniform rules. Most of them are so common, we do them without thinking: “Buckle Up,” “Speed Limit,” “Handicap Parking Only,” “Photo ID required,” “One Way,” “Wash Hands before Returning to Work.”
Like David in Psalm 143, we need a daily renewal of God’s love. “Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love,” he prayed (Psalm 143:8a). As important as laws are, they are not what sustain us. Laws help us to live together. Obedience, respect for law, is the basis for society. A society that does not follow law is in anarchy. Love, peace, joy, and self-control are the result of obeying God’s law, and help us obey civil law.
David had spiteful enemies who followed their own rules. Though he wanted revenge, David submitted to a higher law, God’s law.
Read God’s Word daily and be renewed by His unfailing love.
