Changing Allegiance
July 6th, 2016
Romans 6:1-23
The college age volunteers at the building site listened to the retired man share his views on men, women and marriage. “Women, men do not change when they marry. But, when a young woman marries, a switch is flipped. She wants to change her husband.”
When we come to Christ, there is a switch. We are ashamed of our previous choices and actions resulting in spiritual death. Now our desire is to obey God. This change is so drastic it is compared to being raised from death to life. It is as if going from the darkest night to the brightest day. This new life is the difference between sin and righteousness, disobedience and obedience, wickedness and holiness.
The power to live the new life in Christ is the change in the heart; the center of our will is now Christ. “Though you used to be slaves to sin, you have come to obey from your heart the pattern of teaching that has now claimed your allegiance” (Romans 6:17).
Oh, and men change in marriage also, if the heart is committed.
