Basic Truth
June 13th, 2016
1 John 2:18-27
There is value—significant, stabilizing value—in adhering to the truth that brought you into relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Those early lessons are foundational, not merely the first of many steps. Following Christ has a simplicity to it; simple enough for a child. Remember the time the Son of God rebuked the disciples for forbidding children to come to Him? (Mark 10:13-16).
Nevertheless, confessing that Jesus is the Christ is no small matter. All of value in the Christian faith begins here: Jesus is the Christ of God. The walk down the Via Dolorosa, the horrible death by crucifixion, even the resurrection of Jesus from the dead means little if the One involved was not the Son of God. To confess that Jesus is the Christ of God is to affirm that God loves you sufficiently enough to die for you.
Is there a more stabilizing truth than that element of our faith? It is upon this point that your value has been set.
