Mark 9:14-29
While Jesus was on the mountain with Peter, James, and John, the other disciples were facing a crisis. A desperate father came seeking help for his son who was possessed by an evil spirit. Luke tells us the boy was an only child, and the evil spirit was destroying him (Luke 9:38-39).
The disciples wanted to help but were powerless. The father brought the boy to Jesus and said, “If you can do anything, take pity on us and help us” (Mark 9:22). The father must have had some faith, since he came to Jesus, but he wasn’t sure whether Jesus’ power was enough for their need. Jesus answered, “Everything is possible for one who believes” (Mark 9:23). The father wanted to believe with a whole-hearted faith. Jesus answer both of his prayers–for his son’s deliverance and greater faith.
Have you ever wondered how much faith it takes to have our prayers answered? When our faith is small, we still can come to Jesus. He loves to answer our prayer for greater faith. Then He surprises us by doing more than we could ask or imagine.
