World-Changing Faith
February 13th, 2016
John 14:1-14
Wealthy, powerful, and famous people often seem to determine the direction of the world. They have the potential to do great good or terrible evil.
It would be interesting to ask our Sunday School group, “Who has influenced you most? Who changed your life?” Probably none of the world’s powerful people would be mentioned. We would hear about parents, grandparents, teachers, and friends. Someone introduced us to Jesus, nurtured us, and set an example of godly living.
When Jesus said those who believed in Him would do greater things than He had been doing, He wasn’t speaking primarily about miracles, but the proclamation of the gospel. Jesus’ earthly ministry was limited to a few years in Israel. He told His disciples they would receive power when the Holy Spirit came on them and would be His witnesses “to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8).
They were ordinary people, but they would be changed and equipped to change the world by the power of the Holy Spirit who would live in them. The promise is for us too.
