Let’s Get There Together

Colossians 3:1-17
The first part of Colossians 3:16, “Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly,” is usually where we stop. In doing so, we create our own spiritual challenges. We were never meant to be spiritual reservoirs. We were designed by God to be rivers of living water. Believers are designed and directed to share the wisdom they gain. There was purpose in Scripture teaching that the older should train the younger.
We need both teaching and admonishing. Teaching is the easier of the two. That is simply the transfer of information. Admonishing is the key to effective discipleship. This requires time and energy.
Paul instructs believers to live close enough together that we can challenge one another to grow in grace and wisdom. There is no shortcut to discipleship, it is a relationship discipline. If Paul were using modern language, he would say, “Live life together, grow together, worship together, celebrate together, and encourage each other constantly until we all get to heaven together.”
