Luke 24:28-44
Everything Jesus predicted about His execution had happened. On a long Friday afternoon the disciples watched the life drain out of their Lord and His body placed in a tomb. Everything Jesus predicted about His resurrection also came true. Now the crucified Lord stood before the Eleven in a new body, but doubts filled their minds. Could this really be Jesus?
John the Baptist had identified Jesus as the Lamb of God and even baptized Him. Yet while in prison, he doubted (Matthew 11:2-6). No rebuke came from Jesus, but rather proof: the blind, the lame, the lepers, and the deaf had been healed; the dead had been raised; the good news was being preached. Later, in Luke 24, we see Jesus presenting His doubting disciples with more glorious proof: His hands and feet with fresh nail prints.
We can’t see Jesus’ hands and feet today, but when we do one day, we will instantly recognize our Lord. Until then, we are blessed for believing without seeing (John 20:29).
