God Is with Us
December 14th, 2015
Isaiah 8:1-10
The idea of Immanuel, that God is with us, is either a great comfort or a terrible portent. It depends on where you are standing. If you believe God and trust Him, you rejoice, knowing that whatever happens, you are safe in His love and care. David wrote: “If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there” (Psalm 139:8).
If you are walking away from God, living in rebellion against Him, you dread hearing that He is with you. When Sennacherib planned the destruction of Judah in 701 BC, he was certain that he would triumph for Assyria, but he didn’t reckon on God. He had great plans and a great army, but they could not stand against the Holy One of Israel.
We are never so blind as when we imagine that we can go against God in any sort of battle. The creator, preserver, and governor of all things reigns. All is in His control. What joy to put our trust in Him. Stand on the side of God and know that no enemy will ever overwhelm you!
