Between Words and Actions
August 15th, 2015
2 Peter 1:12-21
Words can carry a movement only so far. Through words, it’s possible to raise awareness, build excitement and gather support for a new idea or cause. However, if that cause or idea doesn’t follow through with action, the idea will inevitably die. After all, people are looking for results, not just words.
One disconnect we find between culture and Christianity is in the ratio of words to actions. We are a people who like words and are unafraid to use them against others. We often use words like horseshoes or hand grenades, with the hope that our words might find their mark; that somehow our words might change a heart.
The problem is that we are called, by actions as well as words, to share in the coming of the kingdom of God. Through the years, the Kingdom has drawn closer with each passing day.
As we look towards the future, with hope of what will be “someday,” may it be by our loving actions, and not just our words, that the world is changed.
