Let Him Build
February 19th, 2015
Isaiah 26:12-21
The great sin of the Tower of Babel was not what they built, but why they built it. “Come, let us build ourselves a city, . . . so that we may make a name for ourselves” (Genesis 11:4). They fell into the same temptation that the serpent presented to Eve eight chapters earlier. The same one that later befell the Israelites at the base of Mt. Sinai when they made a golden calf (Exodus 32:1-4).
God has no qualms with creativity; He is the Creator of creativity. The Hebrew word translated “make” is used 2,636 times in the Old Testament, yet, He did not create us simply to make or build things ourselves. We can build all manner of magnificent things that can appear “good,” but can be void of God.
Whenever we do the building, our destructive pride takes over. That is why He made us leave all of the building to Him. He may work through us at times to do it, but all the resourcing comes from Him and all the glory goes to Him. What are we trying to build today? Would we leave all the building to Him?
