Our Lord WIll Triumph
January 18th, 2015
Psalm 110:1-7
Yes, we have read the final chapter. The outcome is sure. He wins!
What a glory to Messiah’s cross! There He “disarmed the powers and authorities,” and “he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them” (Colossians 2:15). “The metaphor recalls a Roman general leading his captives through the streets of his city for all the citizens to see as evidence of his complete victory.”* All the dark forces that bedevil the human family—conquered! Provision made; consummation coming. We eagerly anticipate the restoration of Eden’s shalom, and by faith we appropriate his victory in our hearts.
John Wesley wrote of God’s final triumph, “We have strong reason to hope that the work he hath begun he will carry on unto the day of his Lord Jesus. . . . until he hath put a period to sin and misery, and infirmity, and death; and re-established universal holiness and happiness, and caused all the inhabitants of the earth to sing together, ‘Hallelujah! The Lord God omnipotent reigneth!’”**
