Wisdom—The Gold Standard
November 24th, 2014
Proverbs 2:1-22
Our world has attained perhaps the greatest level of knowledge in recorded history. However, knowledge does not equate to wisdom. Wisdom, properly defined, means “the ability to discern or judge what is true, right, or lasting; insight.”
The first human conversation on record is between Satan and Eve. Satan said, contrary to God’s warnings, “You will not certainly die . . . For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil” (Gen. 3:4-5).
Today, the distinct lines between wisdom and understanding are blurred. This is due to a famine of discernment resulting from a deficiency of godly wisdom.
We gain clarity when we read Solomon’s words, “The LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.” In other words, He is the source of wisdom, knowledge and understanding. He is the “gold standard” and the only changeless reference point for those who seek to “discern or judge what is true, right, or lasting.”
Let us learn to be still and listen for the voice of God. His words are truth, light, love and promise.
