God’s Credentials
August 28th, 2014
Revelation 4:1-11
In the academic world credentials make a statement and identify you. What is your highest degree and from which university did you graduate? Which scholarships/grants/awards did you receive? What is your area of research? Where have you published your research? How many international conferences have you presented at or attended? And on it goes. Faculty strive to be proven they are “worthy” of tenure and promotion to the next rank, such as associate professor and eventually full professor.
Revelation 4:11 begins, “You are worthy, our Lord and God”. As a result of your worthiness you receive glory (high renown or honor won by notable achievement), honor (high respect; esteem), and power (the ability to do something or act in a particular way). What faculty wouldn’t like to possess one or all of these?
Now let’s look at God’s credentials. He created all things by His will. Peterson in The Message concludes verse 8 by describing God as our Master, Sovereign-Strong, The Was, The Is, and the Coming.
