Seek God’s Mercy
August 15th, 2014
Job 9:1-20
We live in litigious times. People seem so quick to take matters to court. Some of us may have experienced standing in front of the judge. Their job was to measure out justice for an accused wrongdoing. While some want justice; we all want mercy. In our legal system, we are “innocent until proven guilty” and that offers protection for those who are called before the bench.
Job knew that he was innocent of sinning against God. He stood before God as a righteous man. Job asked, “But how can mere mortals prove their innocence before God?” (Job 9:2). Job knew his situation was precarious. As Job laid out his defense the size of the pit he dug with every word uttered before an all-knowing and all-powerful God seemed to only increase. As far as Job was concerned he was a “dead man walking.” He recognized that he did not have a hope of laying out a proper defense before God. And yet, Job never stopped speaking to God.
God offers mercy, pardon and peace; speak to your Father today.
