Psalm 107:33-43
Studies reveal that people can process language approximately four times faster than someone can actually speak. This means that if someone speaks about 125 words per minute, we’re processing about 500 words per minute. As a result, we can become easily distracted. We daydream, look around, or impatiently wait for our turn to talk! Is it surprising, then, that inherently we aren’t good listeners?
Psalm 107:43 emphasizes that the one who is wise listens to God’s instructions. Doesn’t it astonish you that we can communicate with the one true God by simply listening? Yet, we allow ourselves to get distracted or busy with other more “important” things!
“I pray all the time,” you might say. However, praying to God is not the same as listening to God. In fact, it’s the opposite. Praying to God is essential, but it’s only half the conversation.
Be intentional and tune-in, listen for God to speak. Our God has wonderful things to tell us!
