Wisdom, the Fountain of Life
March 22nd, 2014
Proverbs 13:13-25
Kansas City is known as the City of Fountains. Brochures provide directions for a walking tour of 32 water features. The advertised total of more than 250 public fountains serves as an attraction for tourists.
At least some of these water features were originally constructed to provide drinking and washing water for people and for animals. Once indoor plumbing became the norm, the fountains took on different, more scenic purposes. Now the fountains around town offer beautiful designs, the relaxing sounds of splashing water, and cooling mist. Some people say that water soothes the soul.
Wise teaching is like a fountain of life, soothing, protecting and healing. Without water, a person will likely die in a matter of three to five days. Without wise teaching, we also surely will suffer and be led astray.
Lord, today please let my words be a refreshing, life-giving fountain. May my life be consistent, a steady flow of your grace and wisdom to bring healing to others in my community.
