A Song in Your Heart

Psalm 104:24-35
There are times when only a song will do: to lift the mood, to strengthen our resolve, and even to express our grief. Music often expresses emotion in ways that words alone cannot. The writer of Psalm 104 was moved by the greatness and wonder of creation to give praise to our Creator God. Worshipful adoration seems to demand music.
David and the other early psalm writers lived in a world that has nearly vanished today. Particularly for those who live in urban areas we often live in isolation from nature. We walk on pavement, drive a climate controlled automobile, we eat food others have grown, and view wildlife in a zoo. There are benefits to modern living, but often when we look out our windows we see only the works of mankind. Those works may move us to admiration, even appreciation, but they do not inspire worship. That belongs to God alone.
What lifts our hearts to song? It may have been a while since we have spontaneously sung our praise from a heart of grateful praise. Nevertheless, isn’t it about time?

“Those works may move us to admiration, even appreciation, but they do not inspire worship.”
For instance, the neat lights of Las Vegas versus the Grand Canyon. (Man-made photographs of the Grand Canyon don’t even do the awesomeness of God’s wonder justice.)
