Careful And Prayerful Obedience

Deuteronomy 5:22-33
Cana of Galilee is a cherished stop whenever I lead a discipleship journey to the Holy Land. Nestled between Nazareth and the Sea of Galilee, Cana is the place Jesus was launched into the miracles portion of His public ministry. Launched? Yes, His mother, Mary, called Jesus into the kitchen when the wedding wine unexpectedly ran out. Taking a look at the kitchen help, Mary said, “Do whatever he tells you” (John 2:5b). They did. Their careful obedience to Jesus’ instructions resulted in an overflow of holy wine that only heaven could afford.
Near the end of His earthly ministry, Jesus was praying in Gethsemane. Overwhelmed by the cup of sorrow His Father offered, Jesus was careful and prayerful to discern exactly what His Father desired. Then He prayed the perfect prayer of obedient surrender.
At Cana, the Son, observed and obeyed His mother’s words and made holy wine. On Calvary, the Son observed and obeyed His Father’s will and became healing wine.
