Until That Day
October 5th, 2013
1 Thessalonians 5:12-24
Among the many ways my parents have served our Lord through the years stands out to me, their ministry to senior adults. Seems like many sort of “forget” about our seniors, but not my folks! Dad taught seniors for 14 years and both have served seniors through various ways: writing care cards, home and nursing home visits, feeding seniors who cannot do so themselves, and so on.
One key issue for my parents is to stress the value of focused daily living and pursuit of Jesus every day. Among seniors with aches and pains, medical issues, and in some cases disappointment over the church becoming unfamiliar to the church of days gone by, my folks stress a vital relationship with Jesus “until that day.”
Paul is saying, “[Until] the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ” do these things. It is vitally important that everybody, senior adults included, rejoice always, pray without ceasing, do not quench the Spirit, and allow God’s sanctifying work to continue in you.
