Who Cares?
October 4th, 2013
1 Thessalonians 2:1-12
My Uncle John has a doctorate in Christian counseling. He has an uncanny way of pinpointing people’s temperament and personality. This may have come from his studies–and being a pastor for over four decades. One thing I’ve learned from him is that some people really care about what others think about them and other people could care less. Some fall in between. I think everyone cares about what others think about them on some level. At that level a certain amount of people pleasing is exhibited.
Paul establishes his identity in Christ. His business is the pursuit of a pure heart, and to point others to that attainable purity as well. I have no doubt Paul’s aim was not to please men but God. However, if you are like me, it can be easy from time to time to fall into “people pleasing.”
You may have spent your whole life trying to please others, never quite feeling like you measure up. Can I send you 1 Thessalonians 2:12? Ask God to settle in your mind and heart the real goal–to walk worthy of Him. Remember, people-pleasing is a race you can’t win. Walk worthy of God. Amen!
