Know Who You Are
October 1st, 2013
1 Corinthians 4:1-13
Paul establishes that he and other followers of Christ are servants. At the very core of who he is, at the core of being a Christ-follower, is being a servant and maintaining a servant attitude. This attitude is not merely individual but communal.
When individuals and faith communities truly embody the spirit of servanthood by regularly serving one another and their communities with humility, not only is God glorified, but the Good News becomes redemptive, and we increase in awareness of who we are in Christ. We develop a strong self-identity and communal identity. Paul is showing us–he’s a servant, he’s a steward, and as such judgments against him, his character, or his intentions are of no consequence. He knows who he is. He knows his mission. He knows his life is lived for Christ. People may judge, but he will not be moved!
It is hard when people misinterpret you, your motives, or your intentions. Let that go. Be the servant. Be the steward. Be what God is crafting you to be.
