Worthy Or Worthless?
September 15th, 2013
Isaiah 42:10-17
What a joy it is to gather for worship and sing praises to the one true God, the God we love, the God who first loved us! Yet in any given service, there may be those whose lips move but whose hearts and minds are elsewhere, tuned at times to lesser gods. God speaks about those lesser gods in Exodus 20:3-5a: “You shall have no other gods before me,” He warns. “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them.”
Among other definitions, an idol is described as “any object of ardent or excessive devotion.”
Idols come in many forms–forms chosen by humans, never by God. An idol can be as big as a bank account or as small as a golf ball. It can sparkle like diamonds, gurgle like a baby, and fill to capacity both garages and closets.
Have you given Him first place in your heart?
