A God Of Second Chances
September 5th, 2013
Isaiah 57:14-21
Ours is a family of huggers, and I am to blame. I was ready for hugs long before one ever happened–until I met Jesus!
Being both strong-willed and adventuresome meant that trouble followed by discipline dogged my days. At night, my pillow was often wet with tears because I was sorry for whatever childish “sin” I had committed. I sincerely longed to do better. A hug would have helped. I guess that’s why I started early with my own family. A hug following correction, I felt, could quickly comfort and remind a child that she was loved.
The Israelites, God’s chosen children, ran after other gods and indulged often in willful disobedience that tried the patience of the one true God. The God who doled out punishment also vowed to bring hope and healing to the people He loved.
God is a god of second chances. He forgives sins and encourages His people to live better lives. The sense of affirmation for those aligned with His will is like a giant, ever-present hug.
Have you experienced a hug from God today?
