Hope Remains
July 29th, 2013
Hosea 1:1—2:1
God tells Hosea to marry Gomer who would be an adulterous wife. Hosea’s marriage to Gomer symbolized the relationship between God and Israel. Though God loved Israel and took her as His very own, Israel had been terribly unfaithful. Hosea’s life and words will now proclaim God’s disappointment and judgment on the people of Israel. “Yet” (1:10a) He also makes proclamations of great hope that we often overlook in books of the Bible like Hosea. Hosea chapter 1, verse 10 reminds us that no matter how disappointed God may be in us, He is always ready to take His children back.
The Israelites had forgotten their story and how God had delivered them. Maybe some of your loved ones have forgotten their story. Hold onto hope and never cease praying for them. If they were raised in the church there may have been some negative experiences. But in the midst of all those Sunday school classes, VBS programs, youth camps and sitting through Sunday messages, they had to have heard the great story of God. They know the way to the Father and He will always take them back so they can once again be called, “children of the living God.”
