Chosen; Therefore
July 12th, 2013
Amos 2:13—3:6
Many in Israel were of the opinion that being chosen by God brought with it special exemption and They were the chosen people; therefore, they deserve certain exemptions and benefits.
What they failed to grasp was that the covenant relationship with God included responsibility and accountability. Moses had emphasized this truth at Mount Sinai when he stressed to the people what God’s response would be to both obedience and disobedience to His word (Leviticus 26). As the chosen people of God, their personal and national life was to reveal the moral and ethical qualities presented in the Law. Their holy, loving, and just God will hold His people accountable.
The apostle Paul reminded his readers and us today that we will all stand before the judgment seat of God and give account of ourselves to Him (Romans 14:10, 12). May we, by God’s enabling grace, live in loving obedience to His will and, thereby, hear these welcoming words: “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
