“Our Father Is The King!”
June 23rd, 2013
Psalm 47:1-9
Their motto, “We are the friendliest church in town!” flashed across the face of every bulletin, newsletter, power point, and name tag. Greeters were strategically stationed to insure that no one entered the building without a friendly welcome. Following the service, visitors complimented the pastor, “You certainly are the friendliest church in town! We have never attended a church where the choir waved at the congregation and the congregation waved back” (adapted, unknown source).
Some Christians seem to openly praise the Lord with ease and self-abandonment while other saints are silent. Psalm 47:7 encourages us to worship the King of Kings with claps, shouts, trumpets, songs, and praises. Singing praises to God unites our hearts in love and shifts our focus from self to Savior. Praising God silences the enemy (see Psalm 8:2). A. B. Simpson gives us insight into the power of praise in times of trouble, “Lift up the hands that hang down. March straight through the flood, and lo, the waters will divide.”*
