Created For Royal Responsibility
June 3rd, 2013
Genesis 1:27-31
God blessed His human creatures with remarkable privileges. He created us as male and female in His image and likeness for companionship, pleasure, and procreation (1:27; 2:20b-25).
But the Creator also assigned us a royal responsibility–to care for the earth He created. “Dominion” (1:26, 28, KJV) is not permission to pillage the earth for selfish ends. Our royal responsibility as kingly representatives of our Creator is to “subdue” and “rule over” the earth. We are to domesticate, not destroy, His creation.
Because we are to “be fruitful and increase in number,” we cannot ignore our responsibility to future generations. We are stewards, not owners, of God’s gifts.
As Christians, we exercise environmental stewardship without falling into idolatrous excess. We do not worship and serve “created things rather than the Creator.” Creation inspires us to glorify God and give Him thanks. For in it, we come to recognize His “invisible qualities–his eternal power and divine nature” (Romans 1:20-25).

“Our royal responsibility as kingly representatives of our Creator is to “subdue” and “rule over” the earth.”
Surprisingly (but not really since God is in control), those scientists (that probably deny God) have assisted in the departmentalizing governmental rule over the earth and its creatures. They have classified, studied, and released information regarding the importance of our ecosystems (of which we subdue by cultivating, conquering, or bringing under control).
God gets all the glory (even though it hasn’t always been given to HIM).
