He Made Us Qualified

1 Peter 2:11-25
During my freshman year of college, I needed a car. But I had little money and no established credit. There was a caring person in the church I attended, who had a soft-spot in his heart for “preacher boys.” He took me to the credit union. We sat down at a desk and he helped me fill out an application for a car loan. After I completed the application he took out his pen and signed his name at the bottom of the page, right next to mine and guaranteed the debt.
Then he drove me back to college where we found a corner used car lot. We noticed a real clean Pontiac. It was in excellent condition. Soon, I drove that Pontiac up the street to the men’s dorm. There was no way I could qualify to buy it myself, but someone who loved me put his name on the line.
That’s what Jesus did: He “has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light” (Col. 1:12b). We could not qualify, but thank God “He himself bore our sins” (1 Pet. 2:24)!
