Being In Christ

Romans 3:21-31
Martin Luther, patriarch of the Protestant tradition, said salvation happens sola gratia, sola fides: by grace alone, through faith alone. Only by the grace of God offered in Jesus can we be saved. We access that salvation through faith in Jesus.
“In Jesus” are the operative words here. In today’s passage, that phrase appears in verses 22 and 26. Both places they are key to the point Paul is making. We are saved by grace, through faith in Christ Jesus.
The life of the Christian must continually seek what it means to be in Christ. I am reminded of a NASCAR race, when one car drafts off another. The rear car pulls within an inch of the front car and follows its every move. We are called to follow Jesus so closely and so continually through prayer, spiritual disciplines, and the means of grace that we find he actually is in us and we are in him.
Indeed, we discover the very heart of God.
