The Word Among Us
April 26th, 2013
John 1:1-18
The Lord is a God who speaks. The Word of the Lord formed creation in Genesis 1. The Word came to the patriarchs in the form of covenant. The Word spoke again through Moses and the Law and continued to speak through the prophets.
Most amazing of all was when Jesus came. In him, the Word of the Lord “became flesh and made his dwelling among us” (John 1:14). Jesus Christ is the ultimate Word of the Lord. God’s grace offered to humanity happens through Jesus. He is the fulfillment of all other words of covenant, law, and prophets. Through that Word, amazing things happen.
As the Word of the Lord, Jesus calls for us to respond in faith. If we receive him and believe in his name, we are given the opportunity to become children of God.
We use a lot of God-words. We sing, read, write, email, and text them. We print them in bulletins and post them on Facebook. Today, remember this important fact: All of those words depend upon Jesus, who is God’s first and last Word.

“We use a lot of God-words.”
. . . with emphasis on the “s.”
Assumption is that we are to humbly eat our words until we reach to goal of the mind of Christ (whereas we speak “His Word.”)
