Easy Navigation
March 7th, 2013
John 8:12-20
There are 13 very familiar steps between my side of the bed and the bathroom. I probably navigate it over 1,000 times per year. It is not a difficult walk at all; just bypass the footboard, step left of the small table and go around the chair. My success rate on this journey is so high that I have developed a high level of confidence. Confidence leads me to attempt the walk without even bothering to turn on the lights. It is exactly the same route in the dark as it is in the light. However, the chances that my toe will find the leg of the chair or even that my forehead will find the bathroom door frame are remarkably higher in the dark.
Our journey through life isn’t a familiar path, and it is just as hard to navigate life in spiritual darkness. Jesus, the light of the world, shines so that we can navigate our way through life in obedience. His light prevents us from stubbing our spiritual toes. Following Jesus isn’t rocket science; it is a faith journey of stepping into the light of life.

“It is exactly the same route in the dark as it is in the light.”
For people with “balance” problems, keeping your balance in the dark is extremely difficult. also.. They have to walk slowly and feel for support along the way. In other words, our obedience of encouraging one another is important to those whose life is out of balance with Jesus.
