2 Corinthians 8:1-9

One reason Patricia enjoys being a greeter at church is it gives her an opportunity to see her eight-year-old prayer partner as she and her family arrive for Sunday school. Katie is one of six children, so when the family arrives it is like a troop. As soon as Katie spies Patricia in the entryway she brightens up with a big smile, runs over, and gives her a hug. When Katie hugs her so do several of her younger siblings. Remember, at the same time she is supposed to be greeting and handing out bulletins as worshipers come in.

Last Sunday Katie handed Patricia a little, pink plastic heart that looks like it came from a child’s necklace or bracelet. She proudly said, “Oh, this is for you.” Patricia cherishes that little pink heart and instead of laying it aside, she has taped it to her computer lamp. Why did she do that? It reminds her of a little girl who expresses her love by giving away a little, pink plastic heart. That little, pink plastic heart means more to her than a piece of fine jewelry, because it came from a child’s desire to share.

Jesus has given us a heart for Him, but many of us just lay it aside (instead of cherishing and writing His Word on our heart).
