God Won’t Give Up On You

Jeremiah 33:12-22
A 12-pound hawksbill turtle crawled up to die on a Honolulu beach. An autopsy revealed that it had swallowed several beads, a comb, a golf tee, a toy wheel, a balloon, a toothpaste cap, part of a syringe, two Baggies, and a plastic flower.
Somehow trash had looked good enough to eat!
The Hebrews in Jeremiah 33 were seduced by the pagans around them who flaunted their worship groves, handmade idols, fertility symbols, and good luck charms. The Hebrews had none of these–they were to worship the One True God in spirit and in truth.
Soon the Hebrews themselves took to trusting in the pagan idols. They all but forgot the true God. Foreign armies killed or captured the population and the Hebrews discovered that their handmade gods could not answer a single prayer.
Yet God would not give up on them. He promised to purge, forgive, and restore.
The Child of Bethlehem is God reaching out to us. Though we have sinned, he wants to purge, forgive, and restore you and me.

In real life, scavenger birds live off of dead food (which is definitely trash to us).
Whereas eagles feed off of live food; but eat the dead stuff if they are hungry.
In Isaiah 40:31, their strength has to be renewed with live the food that the Holy Spirit provides.
