Every Knee, Every Tongue

Philippians 2:1-11
In the British Museum is a carved black stone obelisk with a depiction of King Jehu of Israel (2 Kings 10) offering tribute while bowing to the ground before Shalmaneser III, king of Assyria. The event was notable enough to the ancient Assyrians to carve it in stone for succeeding generations to see. No matter that in the ninth century BC Assyria was a world power and Israel had been only a minor partner in a coalition of nations that resisted Shalmaneser’s aggression. The king of Assyria wanted everyone to see that other kings bowed to him.
In the end it won’t matter who bowed down to Shalmaneser or any of the thousands of despots and would-be world conquerors who dot the sordid history of humanity. One day every knee, in heaven and on earth, will bow to the One who never sought to conquer a kingdom or earthly power. Unlike them he humbled himself, took the form of a servant, and was obedient even to the point of death “on a cross!” (v. 8). In this upside down kingdom the lowliest of all becomes the Lord of all.

No matter what your station in life is or will become, it is humbling t know that not only will my knee bow (by choice) but those that are known throughout the world will bow at the same time. I wonder and pray that it will be by choice also.

Hey, Tonya. It is “very” humbling, but, at least believers will have gifts to lay at his feet:
The crown of joy (because our eyes were opened by belief in “HIM”)..
The crown of endurance (only because of “HIS” promises)
The crown of righteousness (only because HE showed us “the way” and gave us the Holy Spirit as our helper)
The crown of life (only because HE lives, HE drew us to believe in our heart, and our thankfulness that HE does not lie. )
The prize of all honor and glory to HIM though Him,
