No Partiality
October 29th, 2012
James 2:1-4
Most people have a list of qualities that we think make others acceptable. Sometimes these qualities are spoken, but most of the time we would be too embarrassed to admit them to anyone else. The problem comes when we secretly, almost subconsciously, make judgments about people for things like appearance, where they live, what they drive, how they dress, or if they have a piercing or tattoo.
The problem of partiality has been around forever. We see it in every corner of society and it is a two-way street. Giving preferential treatment to the rich is inconsistent with the teachings of Jesus Christ, but so is neglecting the poor. One sin is rooted in selfishness while the other is rooted in pride.
All are created in his image and all are equal in his sight. Let’s do our best to follow the example of Christ and show no partiality to those he brings across our path. All of them deserve our love and respect.
