Sincerely Loving Those God Loves
October 28th, 2012
Matthew 25:31-46
I learned from my missionary father to treat people as equals. Customs, languages, or the kinds and quantities of their possession may vary, but people are essentially the same. When I am in a foreign country with a mission team I include the nationals traveling along with us at our table when we eat. I treat them equally in housing at a hotel.
Once a team member commented on the way I include the nationals. He said that on his many mission trips he had always witnessed a distinction and separation. I asked, “So how do they treat me?” He replied, “They treat you like a king.”
Just because we have benefited from God’s saving grace doesn’t make us better than an alcoholic or a drug addict or a homeless person. Lovingly sharing the Good News may bring redemptive lift to someone for whom Christ gave his life even though sin has taken its toll. All we have to do is love as we have been loved. Regardless of status, race, pedigree, or size, every person is an expression of the image of God.
