1 Corinthians 16:5-24
Soldiers in the midst of battle would never throw aside their weapons and stretching out for a cat nap, nor would an ambulance driver pull off the road to snooze while a patient waited inside. Just as a good worker continues through exhaustion and pain to complete the job, so must Christians also work through the difficulties of growing with Christ.
Paul gives some tough love to the church at Corinth. In the middle of building the church and creating disciples, many of the Corinthian Christians had given up and given over to their old ways. Their faith, so strong when Paul was present, was now easily swayed by those who preached a softer message. “Be on your guard . . . Do everything in love,” Paul commanded them. The time was over for complacency and of being led; now, it was their turn to grow up and own their faith.
How many times have you felt like giving up the fight for Christ? No matter how little progress you think you’ve made, know that if you’ve been fighting for Christ, then Christ has been fighting alongside you. Strengthened and sustained by him, your battle has already been won.
