God’s Calling
September 12th, 2012
1 Thessalonians 4:1-12RG AUDIO 091212
Often in the Christian life we struggle with understanding what God’s will, or calling, is for our lives. In our teen years we may desire to know what God is calling us to in terms of career. In our young adult years we may desire to know where God is calling us to live. Later in life we may wonder what God will call us to do in our retirement years. What makes these, at times, a struggle is that they are not spelled out in Scripture. Nowhere does it say, “You should be a teacher.” These are things that we must diligently seek God’s guidance through prayer, godly counsel, and his Word.
However, there are things that God calls us to which are clearly written in his Word. Paul clearly states that God calls us to live a life of holiness (v. 7). Because it is God calling us, he will give us his wisdom and power to live the sanctified life. This “holy life” comes through believing and obeying God and his Word, and relying on the Holy Spirit to guide and direct our lives. What is God’s will? “It is God’s will that you should be sanctified” (v. 3).
