Real Productivity
August 17th, 2012
Titus 3:9-15
For many of us, our problem isn’t idleness but busyness. Our motto should be “the hurrier I go, the behinder I get.” Paul was not promoting that kind of lifestyle. On the other hand, there were some who misunderstood, thinking God had saved them so they could loaf their way to heaven. So the apostle gave some stern instructions: get busy, provide for your (material) needs, live productive lives. It’s still sound advice; God didn’t design us to be lazy and irresponsible. Doing nothing must be the most tiresome job in the world; you can’t stop and rest!
We’re called to productivity. But what is it? Well, Jesus was a good authority on that subject. He commended those who were diligent and disciplined. But he also warned against laying up treasures on earth. “Treasures” can steal your heart. And it’s not just material treasures.
It has been said that the greatest use of life is to spend it for something that will outlast it. That’s the secret of “real productivity”!
