Rebirth & Renewal
August 16th, 2012
Titus 3:1-8
Do you ever wonder why the third Person of the Trinity is named “the Holy Spirit”? I do. It seems impersonal. My feeble brain struggles with the concept of spirit reality. So, why that name? Perhaps it’s because his primary role is to enable us to live holy lives. That’s a major project, a lifelong project. Only God is up to that task!
Consider the mess we were in when he started working with us: physically alive but spiritually dead; an inherited sin nature; guilty of sins; separated from God; eternally lost. But God didn’t give up on us. He had a plan; it required our spiritual rebirth. So Jesus died on Calvary that we might be reborn. His shed blood became our life-blood. The price of our redemption was paid. Now, as Paul expressed it in verses 5-6, the Holy Spirit could do his special work of “rebirth and renewal.”
